More time for play and exploration - less time managing disruption

Tools for Life helps young learners gain self-control and self-esteem. They learn how to listen, communicate respectfully, and read their own feelings and those of others. They are equipped with decision-making strategies so that they can act and react in the best, most constructive way – within the child care centre, the school environment, and in the community. Increasingly, life skills like these are being recognized as crucial for children, helping them to build positive relationships and to really flourish as learners.

Tools for Life Early Years Resource Kit

The Tools for Life Resource Kit for Early Years (ages 2½ to 4) is engaging for children, educators and facilitators who work in child care centres and other places of learning. The Concepts presented throughout the Educator’s Manual, informed by How Does Learning Happen?, are essential and effective for developing positive social interaction, respect and collaboration.

  • Tools for Life clearly aligns with the child-centred, play-based philosophy, that encourages intentional learning through a balance of inquiry and explicit teaching
  • Each Resource Kit includes an extensive Educator’s Manual with evidence-informed support for using the Tools For Life Strategies and Tools, as well as highly interactive resources and manipulatives to introduce and reinforce them
  • The print version of this resource is no longer available. Digital Version Coming Soon!

What educators and child care administrators are saying…

After two weeks of handing out Tools for Life “Put Ups”, one child made the trumpet noise during the program.  We all stopped and looked at him.  I asked excitedly who was getting a “Put Up”?  He stated I was.  I asked why? He said, “Because you are the best teacher ever!”  It honestly melted my heart.

What we like about Tools for Life as an organization, is the ability of the professionals who work within our collaborative system to support and engage directly with their colleagues for an overall structure that supports all children and families. This is the epitome of best practice.
